Join the ESS PTA for the MLK Week of Service. January 15th through January 22nd

In this time of anxiety, when it might sometimes feel as if we are powerless to create change, remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."

The ESS PTA invites you to join with neighboring organizations in our community for the MLK Week of Service. January 15th through January 22nd. Jan. 15th-Jan 22nd Sign up for online and onsite opportunities to serve.

Sunday, Jan. 16th 10 am-noon The ESS PTA and ESSCA clean up litter in our community. Meet at the East Silver Spring Elementary School parking lot. Monday, Jan. 17th 10am-noon Join the ESS PTA, East Silver Spring Civic Association, Girl Scout Junior Troop 34024 and Brownie Troop 34099, and others at the park at Church of the Ascension, 633 Sligo Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910 in dropping off donations of new, unused household items such as pots, plates, cutlery, pillows, comforters, sheets, towels, toiletries and more to families in need--including families newly arriving to our community from Afghanistan. Have your little one bring a card or picture for a senior or make one at Church of the Ascension. The cards will be delivered to area nursing homes. Please wear a face mask and practice social distancing when dropping off items. Tuesday, Jan. 18th Online fundraiser for the families in the New Hampshire Estates ES and Oak View ES community impacted by the fire at the Flower Ave Apartments. You can make a donation here Wednesday, Jan. 19th, 4pm-7pm MCPS and the ESS PTA are working together to help keep our community healthy and safe by hosting a walkup COVID-19 testing and vaccine clinic for ESS families at East Silver Spring ES, 631 Silver Spring Ave. Thursday, January 20 A Day of Reflection. Use the reflection cards your student brings home to discuss as a family what it means to serve the community. Commit to serve throughout the year. Friday, January 21 Reading List Day. Hop on ESS PTA or ESSCA social channels to recommend a book, article, or website about building community, the spirit of public service, and/or anti-racism.
