ESS Panda Clubs Spring 2023

Classes begin the week of April 10th

What are Panda Clubs? 

  • The Spring session of Panda Clubs includes 10 different 1-hour after school (4-5pm) enrichment programs run by community organizations at ESS. There are 5 choices for each age group, one per day of the week. Each student may sign up for one club. 

  • This session offers 7-8 weeks of clubs. Most clubs begin the week of April 10th. Start dates are below.

  • Registration is now only one step–directly with the club provider. To sign up your child, please go to the link that corresponds with the club you want to sign up for. If you want a scholarship, please email pandaclubs@esspta.org, or text 540.250.5294, and we will send you a coupon code for registration.

SPRING 2023 CLUBS

GRADE K-2
 
Monday

Art Immersion (Create Arts, $138). Starts 4/17. This season you’ll experience a hands-on, immersive, all encompassing artistic experience. Each week, students will be introduced to new materials and methods to create beautiful 2D and 3D works of art. The materials include pastels, textile, collage, and watercolor. All levels of students will create their own realistic and abstract masterpieces as they journey through the history of art.

Tuesday

Spanish (Big Learning, $115). Starts 4/11. A fun introduction to a new language where children learn and practice speaking Spanish through storytelling with puppets, songs, games, and hands-on activities in a language immersion setting. Our story theme this session is La Gallinita Roja or The Little Red Hen. Classes are taught by native Spanish-speakers.

Wednesday

“This pretty planet” Writing+Nature ($115). Starts 4/12. We'll read poems about spring nature objects, go outside to collect our own, and create installations & mandalas with them. There will also be some singing along the way! Then we’ll compose short poems to go with our creations, and publish a photo-anthology of our work to take home. REGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/3JzAOgL

Thursday

Science: Bubbles to Rainbows (Big Learning, $115). Starts 4/13. Explore our very own star! How can we eat sunshine? How can you make ultraviolet beads change colors? What happens when bubbles heat up? How does a sundial work? Create your own sun print pictures with light sensitive paper. Find rainbows in your very own sun bouncer. Friday

Kaizen Karate ($126). Starts 4/14. This club is an introduction to the sport. Children will learn the beautiful art of karate while gaining safety and defensive skills in a respectful environment. The class will emphasize the basic karate principles of focus, patience, and self- discipline. First time students will start the belt program, and returning students can work toward new belts. Grades K-4 ok.

Monday

Tuesday

Theater: Changing Up Fairytales (RoundHouse, $90). Starts 4/11. What if Goldilocks and the Three Bears decided to become friends? Students reinvent their favorite fairy tales and learn how to tell them in a whole new way using acting and movement.. Students create their own adventures by taking control of stories and characters and re-imagining them through improvisation.

Wednesday

Basketball, 1-Up-Handles ($80). Starts 4/19. Focused on fun! We teach young athletes fundamental basketball rules and concepts. With guidance from coaches, participants will develop dribbling, shooting, and passing skills, learn basic offensive and defensive concepts, and build strength and refine motor skills. Grades 2-5 ok.

Thursday

Science: Eco KID (Big Learning, $115). Starts 4/13. Each week young ecologists design and construct amazing habitats and explore plant and animal life cycles. During the session they will create a grass scape, a mini-farm, and a salt water habitat for brine shrimp. This program introduces students to themes of sustainability, extinction, and biodiversity.

Friday

PANDA CLUBS RULES

 

  • Student Cancellations/Refunds: All refunds will be made via the vendor. There will be no refunds offered after the first week of programs. 

  • Frequent (two times) late pick-ups will result in dismissal from the program without a refund. Vendors may charge a fee for late pickup.

  • Student Behavior: In order to keep our club fun and safe for everyone, all students are expected to follow ESS school rules while attending PANDA CLUB after school enrichment classes. Parents will be contacted each time there is a behavioral problem that cannot be remedied in the class. East Silver Spring PTA reserves the right to remove your student from a program. 

  • Provider Cancellations: While the vendors will make every effort to reschedule classes canceled due to unexpected MCPS or ESS closings, we cannot guarantee that every class can be made up. The vendors cannot offer make-up classes or refunds due to a student’s inability to attend class.
